Properly Classifying Workers: 1099 Contractors vs. W-2 Employees

Using independent contractors as a part of an organization's business operations is common. However, businesses must ensure that they have properly classified their workers. Misclassifying a worker as an independent contractor, as opposed to an employee, can have serious legal consequences. This In-Person EAP session will provide an overview of the differences between employees and independent contractors and provide an overview of key questions that businesses should consider when determining how to classify a worker. Lunch will provided.

About the Speaker:
Jessica Childress is the managing attorney and founder of the Childress Firm PLLC, a boutique employment law firm based in Washington, D.C. Ms. Childress holds a Bachelor of Arts in Government and African American Studies from the University of Virginia and a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law.
